Apple Acquires DarwinAI

Now According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple has acquired Canada-based startup DarwinAI. Apple made the deal earlier this year, but no official announcements have been made by the company. Apple has also added many of DarwinAI’s employees to their AI division.

DarwinAI is a startup known for developing and manufacturing smaller, faster AI models. According to the report by Bloomberg, DarwinAI will help Apple run AI on their devices instead of in the cloud.

Apple’s upcoming plans on AI

The World Wide Developers Conference 2024, which is going to happen in June, is the next big event where Apple is going to showcase their new innovations and products. iOS 18 is expected to be announced during the event, and it is expected to be one of the biggest updates in the history of iPhones. According to rumors and leaks, it will bring various new AI features to iPhones.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, recently said in a Q1 earnings call that Apple will “break new ground” in GenAI this year. With the iPhone 16 launching this year, Apple needs to bring AI to the new iPhones to compete with other tech brands. Apple buying DarwinAI says a lot about their AI plans.

Conclusion

Acquiring DarwinAI is going to boost Apple’s AI developments and will allow them to add advanced AI features to their upcoming iPhones and other products. This big step by Apple is going to help them compete with other tech giants and intensify the ongoing AI race.
