Apple is going to give a major boost to their iPhone 17 base models’ display. According to a report by The Elec, the Apple’s iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus are going to have a 120 Hz refresh rate, LTPO OLED, and always on display. Apple markets the 120Hz high refresh rate on its devices as ProMotion technology. These iPhones are expected to launch in 2025.
Current Apple’s iPhones consisting ProMotion Always On Display
The current Pro models of the iPhone, including the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max already have this feature, and Apple might add these features to the base iPhone 17 model and the iPhone 17 Plus along with the Pro models. The current base models of Apple’s iPhone use LTPS technology.
Apple in Talks with BOE
According to the report, Chinese supplier BOE is in talks with Apple to provide LTPO panels for the iPhone 17 and other models of the iPhone 17 series. It has also sent some samples to Apple. However, it won’t be able to manufacture the displays in time for the iPhone 16 series. So, the base iPhone 16 models are still expected to come with 60Hz displays.
If BOE fails to meet Apple’s requirements and quality tests, the Cupertino Giant might shift to other display manufacturers like LG and Samsung. So according to the report, it seems Apple is fully focused on adopting LTPO in all the iPhone 17 models.
Conclusion
Many smartphone brands use LTPO displays because they consume less power as compared to LTPS displays. However, there is still plenty of time before the release of the iPhone’s 17 series, which is expected in 2025. If the reports come out to be true, it will be amazing news for Apple fans, and it will give customers a solid reason to upgrade to the newer iPhones.
