Google recently paused Gemini’s AI image generator after noticing inaccuracies in historical pictures.
Google posted on X “We’re already working to address recent issues with Gemini’s image generation feature. While we do this, we’re going to pause the image generation of people and will re-release an improved version soon.”

The company also apologized for inaccuracies in historical image generations before pausing Gemini’s image generator. The model was found to generate non white images of America’s founding fathers, Caucasians, and other historical figures.
Google said, “Gemini’s AI image generation does generate a wide range of people. And that’s generally a good thing, because people around the world use it. But it’s missing the mark here.”
Users call Google’s Gemini Racist
The image generation feature in Gemini AI models started earlier this month, and the Gemini app was recently launched for global users. Users on social media said the model is highly racist and doesn’t generate images of white people.
When asked to generate images of white people, Gemini says it cannot fulfill the request and says that it is unable to generate images that specify ethnicity and race, and it is against its guidelines to create content that can be discriminatory or promote harmful stereotypes.
But when asked to generate images of black people, the model generated images without any problems.
One user posted about the same on social media platform X.
Google’s AI Gemini is a fucking joke. Of course it’s programmed to have an anti-white bias. pic.twitter.com/TEoEfDEe8U

Conclusion
Google’s Gemini was found guilty of generating racially biased images. This is a big issue that should have been fixed before publicly deploying the model. It seems that Google just wanted to deploy AI models quickly to keep up with other competitors like OpenAI and Microsoft. Although Google has paused the image generation feature of Gemini and will eventually fix this issue, it has ruined the reputation of the model, and many users might not use it again for image generation.
