Apple's iPhone

Apple is in talks with Google to bring Google Gemini’s AI-powered features to iPhones. Reportedly, Apple also contacted OpenAI to bring AI features to their devices. Most likely, these AI features will come with iOS 18, which is going to be one of the biggest updates in the history of iPhones. Although Apple is late in the AI race and far behind competitors like Google, Microsoft, and Samsung, they are doing everything to bring AI features to their products.

Apple Looking to Bring Gemini’s AI Features to iPhones

According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple and Google are in negotiations on their partnership, and if everything goes right, Apple is going to license Gemini’s family of AI models to bring AI features to the iOS 18 version of iPhones. However, the Gemini-powered AI features will be on-device instead of in the cloud, like in the Gemini Android App.

So it seems some AI features will be powered by Apple’s own models, whereas Google’s Gemini can help bring features like AI image generation and AI writing assistance to iPhones.

What About Apple’s AI plans?

According to some sources, Apple is working on their own large language model framework known as “Ajax” and a rumored chatbot called “Apple GPT.” Apple has also recently acquired a Canada-based startup, Darwin AI, which can help bring on-device AI.

Apple’s researchers just a few days ago published a research paper on MM1, a family of multimodal large language models that is currently in the pre-training phase.

However, it seems that their technology is still not ready, and they are not confident about it. So Apple is contacting and looking to partner with other companies to help them integrate AI features into their devices.

Recently, so much news about Apple working on AI has surfaced online, and we are excited about the new AI features of the biggest tech company. Apple is expected to showcase a lot at WWDC 2024, which will be held in June of this year.

Conclusion

If Google and Apple strike a deal and partner with each other, it will be good for both companies. Google Gemini can get much-needed support after Gemini’s image generation controversy, which faced a lot of backlash online, whereas Apple users will enjoy the AI features powered by Gemini.
