Foldable phones in recent years are starting to get popular. Samsung did a lot of research and testing to build their foldable Z series smartphones. But Motorola has shown us how they can take this technology to the next level with Motorola’s Bendable Concept Phone. At MWC last year, Motorola showcased a concept smartphone whose display could be extended. In October last year, they showcased a bendable concept smartphone that could be worn and folded around the wrist of your hand like a bracelet.

More About Motorola’s Bendable Concept Phone

At MWC 2024, Motorola showcased more about the bendable concept smartphone. The adaptive display of the phone can be bent in various forms and can also be used as a regular smartphone to play games and multitask.

The concept phone consisted of a 6.9-inch plastic-based pOLED display screen with a bendable fabric back material. The phone is said to be “contextual aware,” so it adapts according to how bent it has been.

The phone can bend from the top half to create a curved 4.6-inch screen that can be used on your wrist to do stuff like browse social media. The phone is accompanied by a wristband that magnetically attaches to the phone, making sure it doesn’t fall off while worn on the wrist.  You can also apply AI-powered outfit-matching wallpapers to the phone while using it in wrist mode to get a more fashionable look.

The phone can also be used in stand mode, in which you just need to bend the upper portion of the phone to create a stand. It can be used for taking images and selfies.

Limitations of Motorola’s Bendable Concept Phone

It is a concept phone, and it may have a lot of limitations. Comfort can be a concern while using the phone for longer durations on the wrist. The phone will be more costly than regular phones, and it will also require larger batteries to work as more energy will be consumed while using such phones.

There can also be various compatibility issues while using apps when the phone is folded. Moreover, continuous bending of the phones can potentially damage the hardware of the phones. All of this makes it unable to be used in day-to-day life.

Conclusion

Motorola’s Concept is great, but, as they say, it is currently only a concept phone, and we don’t know its practical use cases. The company has also not revealed whether they are working on the phone and its commercial release or if it is just for showing the technology. But the company has a history of converting concepts into real products, so we never know if they actually manage to create an amazing product.
